Is Chitika a serious alternative to Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is a great monetization options for blogs and websites. In fact, most of bloggers completely rely on AdSense as source of income. It is therefore not very pleasant for them to have their account suspended or closed. Indeed, Google has very strict requirements for opening and using an AdSense account. In case they judge that you have not respected the condition, your account might be closed. You will not be able to open a new account with the same name.

I have been looking for possible alternative to Google AdSense and tried several adverting platforms. Chitika is presented on many blogs as a serious alternative. However, my experience with Chitika was not great.

Opening a Chitika account is not difficult. The requirements are less strict than for Google AdSense.
You can quickly start implementing the ads on your website.

On the other hand, they offer a limited number of ads formats and their advertisements stock seems to be limited as well. Recently, they announced a partnership with Google so that they can provide your site with ads from the Google platform.

The RPM was very low and I was barely making any money.  With the same amount of traffic, I could have made a decent income with Google AdSense.
I did not reach the threshold for the payment. Therefore, I cannot comment about this.

The reports were not very detailed and consequently, I was not able to make a deep analysis.

Conclusion, I was not convinced that Chitika could be a serious alternative to Google AdSense, especially, if your major source of traffic is not the US.

Update: Chitika has shut down and closed all its services by mid-2019.
